Flashback – Summer of 2018

It is the middle of August the weather in Germany is pretty hot…

I am about to hop on a plane in less than 24 hours and go into Winter 😉 . BUT until then I have a lot of stuff to do, not to mention packing my luggage with suitable clothing, organizing my camera equipments, etc.

I always have to face one of my biggest challenges before going on a trip. Choosing my outfit is a tuff job for me… I mean, come on who has it easy when getting ready for a trip? I tell you what no one has it easy, especially not girls when it’s coming to the part where you have to decide what you want to wear throughout your vacation.

So after I finally managed to put everything together, it’s time to rethink how my next few days are going to be like…

The big day has come!

It’s 3 am the taxi is about to pick me up, to take me to the airport. After I was dropped off, I checked in before heading on an 11-hour flight, – I am not going to tell where I am flying – I am keeping it as a secret until I have landed.

Tired but no jet lag…

I have finally landed in Johannesburg – South Africa. However, without my suitcase, it was forgotten somewhere in Germany at the airport. When I figured this out, I got nervous because my brand new tripod was in my luggage too. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to receive my belongings on time….

Even though the flight was tiring, and the trip started badly, I am more than excited to explore the beauty of this country.

I am sure you are interested, too; therefore, I am taking you on my ten-day journey.

Here we go!

The first day was for traveling; there is not a lot to say about it.

On this second day, I visited Johannesburg and Pretoria. Our Tour Guide took us to a beautiful park on the top of the hill, where I was able to spot the skylines of Johannesburg. Plus, I enjoyed a bit of African sunshine. At the end of the day, I went “shopping” because all my clothes were in my luggage and I had nothing else to wear…

In the evening, together with my mom and the tour group, we enjoyed a nice dinner.

On the third day, we headed towards Krüger National Park. We made a stop at Blyde River Canyon. It was so beautiful even if it was cloudy; therefore, it was hard to see all parts of the Canyon.

Here I met some primary school kids. They have given so much love and appreciation within those few seconds that my mom and I have spent with them – a lovely moment.

….

Later in the evening, we have reached Krüger National Park; this was our “home” for the next two days. We were welcomed so nicely at this beautiful nature reserve, and I had such a delicious dinner along with some typical African meats and deserts. After dinner, it was a must-have to walk in this peaceful place. The night was spent in a modern tent literally in the Wilderness. The next day early in the morning, we headed off to see some Wild Animals. The Safari tour was a great experience. I witnessed a magnificent sunrise. Different kinds of animals were spotted, except lions they were hiding on this day, it’s such a shame because “Lion king” should be seen….

At the end of the day, I was a bit disappointed; it didn’t look the way I imagined it and how I have seen it on pictures. To experience the real Savanna with giraffes and endless sunsets, Namibia is a place to visit. – That’s on my bucket list too!

Again some nice dinner was served; after that, I got “lost” in watching the sky filled with “sparkling” stars. AND Surprise surprise the two luggage arrived three days later, thankfully nothing was damaged by the extra transport, hahaha!

On the fifth day after breakfast we went back to Johannesburg and from there “together with the two suitcases” we flew to George. From this stop, we took a bus to Cape Town driving through “The Garden Route,” while spending a night at Wilderness. This city was the first stop where I was able to see and feel the South African ocean vibe. No words can describe the magic of that sunset, which I saw; it was such a dream. In the morning, we visited Tsitsikamma National Park. This place is a must-visit and plan at least 4 hours, especially if you enjoy taking photos – because here you really can and you have the perfect setting for it.

Sadly I was able to spend only 2 hours here, but once I am back, I will stay here longer – hence next time I am planning to come back with family, friends.

…..

When arriving to Cape Town, (Waterfront, Company Garden, Table Mountain, Ostrich Farm, Pinguin Beach and many other tourist attractions were visited including the highlight Cape of Good Hope).

Before flying to South Africa, I hoped to be able to do paragliding in this beautiful city. Unlucky me, I couldn’t do it, there was no time for it plus the weather conditions weren’t the most suitable for it.

I don’t want to finish this post without mentioning the most southwestern point – the Cape of Good Hope. This was the highlight of my winter vacation in South Africa!

Now I have some questions for you…

Have you been to South Africa and if yes, where exactly?

What was your favorite moment?
